B&B Art'Aviation, as the name already suggests, is entirely dedicated to Sabena, Belgium’s former national airline, which sadly ceased operations in 2001.
With my mother working as an air hostess—starting in 1966 on the Caravelle—and remaining proudly devoted to her life in aviation until she passed away in 2025, it was almost inevitable that during my childhood I would catch the same aviation “bug.”
During your stay you will discover not only books, but also tableware, vintage menus, and various memorabilia from the golden days of Sabena.
Flying is one thing; keeping one’s feet on the ground is another… and what makes life more beautiful than art? Whether it is painting, sculpture, or music.
I have been fortunate enough to put down roots in this beautiful region where, in the 1960s,
Max Van der Linden, a ceramic artist, tried to inspire the people of his village—not only through his religious ceramic art, but also through music. These were the origins of the annual
“Les Fêtes de Saint-Martin” and the Max Festival.
But this region has not only breathed art in the past. In this very village lives Irina Lankova, a renowned pianist who performs both in Belgium and internationally. If you come here to attend one of her masterclasses and wish to stay overnight, you are welcome to practice free of charge on the Steinway grand piano in the house.
The only condition is that we are allowed to listen to your play!
My mother herself was also a painter (one of her works hangs in the apartment—a copy of Van Gogh’s Starry Night). As a child, I followed my heart and played my first notes on the piano.
This eventually led me to higher studies at the Lemmens Institute with the Belgian pianist Jan Vermeulen. I then had the honor of teaching piano for more than ten years at the City Conservatory of Leuven, before the economic climate (after the events of September 11, 2001) improved enough for me to give up all certainties and pursue my dream of becoming a pilot.
Today, I fly as a Captain on the Airbus A320 with Brussels Airlines.
I love music, I love the sound of roaring engines, and yet… silence remains the greatest luxury.
That is also what I try to create at B&B Art'Aviation: the stillness of the night, the rising glory of the sun above the wide fields around us, the small cobblestone road leading to the chapel of
Max Van der Linden at the end of the street…
Enjoy this tranquility.
Take your time in the sauna, play some gentle music,
and simply enjoy each other and a beautiful moment in life.
